Healthy and responsible use of the available plant medicines is our number one priority. Rather than simply providing these substances on demand, our highly experienced team will assess the needs of each client and decide which medicine(s) is most appropriate. Our intention is not to abuse these plants, but to approach them with respect, reverence, integrity and intentionality.
From the Native American Church in the US to the ayahuasca-using communities of the Amazon and the Bwiti of West Africa, who use iboga as their sacrament, psychedelics and entheogenic plants have been used for millennia to heal emotional and psychological pain. In all such cultures, these plants are ingested as tools to help people find their way back to their true purpose and connect to a meaningful and fulfilling identity. Within the context of addiction, this kind of transformation has proved extremely effective at helping people overcome the pain that causes them to self-medicate.
At Bennu we do not attempt to mimic the work of shamans, though we do draw on a wealth of knowledge and techniques that we have acquired from our studies with indigenous healers around the world. Above all, however, we recognise that addiction and burn-out are very much symptoms of modern Western life, and our approach to treatment remains rooted in Western culture and concepts. Therefore, while psychedelics and plant medicines inevitably bring us into contact with indigenous spirituality, we use them in ways that make sense those undergoing treatment.
